TERROR!
Ben Rivers, 2007 (24min.)

“This masterfully edited compilation documentary analyzes the morphology of the horror film. Stringing together the most common tropes and scenes of slashers, zombie flicks, slumber party massacres, etc. into a single meta-horror opus, Rivers not so much deconstructs the genre as provides a tribute that reveals its limitations but also its visceral power.” - Noel Lawrence, curator of “Experiments in Terror” compilation series

HÄXAN (WITCHCRAFT THROUGH THE AGES)
Benjamin Christensen/Antony Balch, 1922/1968 (76 min.)

“Grave robbing, torture, possessed nuns, and a satanic Sabbath: Benjamin Christensen’s legendary film uses a series of dramatic vignettes to explore the scientific hypothesis that the witches of the Middle Ages suffered the same hysteria as turn-of-the-century psychiatric patients. But the film itself is far from serious—instead it’s a witches’ brew of the scary, gross, and darkly humorous.”

Re-edited in 1968 by filmmaker Antony Balch with narration by William S. Burroughs and jazz score by Jean Luc-Ponty.

THE PAUL LYNDE HALLOWEEN SPECIAL
ABC Television, 1976 (50 min.)

“Thanks to gigs like Hollywood Squares, the 'flamboyant' (nudge nudge) Paul Lynde became one of the cruelest, barely-closeted douchebags in Hollywood. At the height of his comedic fame, some coked-up ABC exec green-lighted this holiday fiasco written by Bruce Vilanche... featuring guest stars Margaret Hamilton as The Wicked Witch from The Wizard of Oz, Billie Hayes as Witchiepoo from H.R. Pufnstuf, Tim Conway, Roz ”Pinky Tuscadero” Kelly, Florence Henderson, KISS, Billy Barty, Betty White and Donny Osmond and Marie Osmond.” - Shock Cinema
